In the heart of Amsterdam’s museum district, a short walk from the Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum, stands the neogothic Conservatorium Hotel. It occupies the former site of the Sweelinck music conservatory and opened in December 2011. The hotel was designed for a new generation of travelers who expect contemporary design, attentive service, and solid facilities, as well as a way into the social and cultural life of the city.

The hotel has eight floors and 129 rooms and suites, from a Duplex Guest Room to the Penthouse Suite. All guests can use Akasha Inspring Wellbeing, which covers more than 1000 square meters and includes oriental massages, a sauna, a hammam, a jacuzzi, a large gym, and a huge indoor swimming pool. Children aged 3 to 14 who are staying at the hotel can use the pool daily in the early morning and on Wednesday afternoons, always with an adult. Guests under 16 are not allowed in the gym, hammam, sauna, or hot tub, and spa treatments are only for guests aged 18 and over.

Dining at the BARBOUNIA and Lounge takes place in a glass and steel courtyard, with good food and attentive service. Taiko Cuisine is Schilo van Coevorden’s award-winning Asian-inspired restaurant and one of the finest hotel restaurants in Amsterdam. The Taiko Bar, also in the hotel, serves small dishes from Taiko Cuisine and a wide range of Asian-inspired cocktails.

I recently stayed at the Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium, Amsterdam with my family, booking a 'Family Deluxe Room' for a 4-night stay. Unfortunately, our experience fell far short of the luxury standards one expects from such a prestigious property. Throughout our stay, we encountered several significant issues: Lack of Basic Amenities & Service: We found that the room was not properly serviced. Essential supplies, such as drinking water, were not replenished, and the expected 'turn-down' service was completely absent. Maintenance Issues: The condition of our room was unacceptable. The bathroom door was broken and could not be closed properly, which is a major privacy concern. Disruptive Environment: To our dismay, the hotel was undergoing painting and renovation work during our stay. This significantly impacted the tranquility and atmosphere we expected for a family vacation. Given the premium price paid for the 'Family Deluxe' category, these lapses in service and maintenance are inexcusable. I had high expectations for this hotel, but I am leaving feeling very disappointed. I would strongly advise the management to address these basic service and infrastructure failures immediately.

You just can’t beat the service at the establishment. I met a friend for a Moscow mule and stayed a tad longer just to chat and partake in an order of bitterballen. The atmosphere is relaxing, with great views & a top notch staff. I workout a lot, so I did ask to see the gym and fitness manager told me all about it. (Great equipment and had I been a hotel guest, I would’ve hit up a weight training session, rowing session and visit to the sauna).

A stunning hotel in so many levels. The architecture is fascinating. The rooms are unique. The spa is out of this world. Whilst having all the creature comforts an luxuries you’d want to get in a beautiful hotel, you still feel like a local in Amsterdam staying there. Do not miss!

As I type this, we are sitting in our room... the staff just left after coming by with a special gift of appreciation and joy. My husband and I (a couple who found love later in life) are here for our honeymoon. We arrived to find our loft-style space joyfully decorated complete with rose petals and a framed print from our wedding.... all carefully arranged by Maryam. And... that was just the beginning of a wonderful experience. From amazing meals in the on-site restaurant to impeccable support from the doorman (Gideon) every moment of our visit has been thoughtful and comprised of memories to last a lifetime. As you can see from the photos included, the hotel is beautifully appointed and in our case, two-story windows overlook the museum district with the works of Rembrandt, Vermeer, and Van Gogh just a few steps away. Originally a music conservatory, the property honors history while integrating the lights and colors of all that is modern. As an art director and retired chef, we can not recommend this hotel and the people who are the heart of it all, highly enough. If you are looking for a place that feels home-like while exploring all that is new... or a place to recharge in today's challenging business environment, you will find all you need (and more) here at the Mandarin Oriental Conservatorium. <3 M+H

Our family stayed at the Conservatorium Hotel with our children, and it was truly a wonderful experience from start to finish. The hotel strikes a rare balance between luxury, comfort, and genuine family friendliness. The location is perfect for families, right by the Museum Quarter and close to Vondelpark, making it easy to explore Amsterdam with kids. Our room was spacious, beautifully designed, and very comfortable, with plenty of room for the whole family to relax after busy days sightseeing. The staff were exceptionally welcoming and attentive, especially toward the children, which made us feel at ease throughout our stay. Small thoughtful touches for kids really stood out and made the experience feel personal rather than just luxurious. Facilities were excellent, and the calm atmosphere of the hotel provided a perfect retreat for parents while still being engaging and comfortable for children. Breakfast was superb, with plenty of options for both adults and kids. Overall, the Conservatorium Hotel is an outstanding choice for families looking for a refined yet warm and child-friendly luxury stay in Amsterdam. We would absolutely return and highly recommend it to families traveling with children.

Had a wonderful spa experience at the Mandarin Hotel today. My therapist was Amy and she was wonderful. The massage was the best I've ever had and made me feel great all week. Amy went above and beyond to personalise my experience. I can't wait to come back again.

EXCELLENT staff, room, restaurants, location. We felt special and appreciated. Upon arrival we were greeted by Lourdes behind the desk counter. Lourdes is a jewel, the hotel is lucky to have her working for them The senior concierge, whose name unfortunately slips me, is an elegant person who was patient and generous with her time and attention, very helpful. My wife and I honestly think that this was the best hotel experience of our lives
