its a comfortable place to sleep and a convenient distance from city center. the toilets are very cramped and the door didnt lock for one of the two stalls. the shower doesnt seem to have hot water and i got shocked when i touched the showerhead. beware. of the three sinks only one has a properly functioning tap. no keys given so anyone can enter the sleeping room. they dont seem to appreciate you exploring outside the bedroom area at night. nice enough people working here. recommendations for the owners for some simple changes: one standing warm lamp in the bedroom, one warm lamp in the bathroom with the sinks. make sure hot water works in the showers. make sure touching shower or knob doesnt electrocute users. make sure bathroom lock works. with these changes it would easily be a 4 star for me. just small touches to make it homely and welcoming, especially after long journeys.

Many mixed reviews here. Sayed one night (Sunday) May 2026. I found a friendly staff and quiet accommodations. Not many other travelers. I was just looking for an inexpensive hostel, and Nikikot was a pleasant surprise. The roof over the dorm toilets needs weatherproofing. After a heavy rain I used another bathroom to avoid rainwater. Overall, clean and quiet for me. Maybe on a Friday or Saturday it may be louder, and I saw no bugs. Volcán de Fuego was active and the rumblings were like thunder and mild earthquakes were the only things waking me. I love solo travel, and this place was perfect for a quick one-night stop.

Dorms beds are not very comfortable and shower, bathrooms are not great. There was no water for two days of my stay and very low wager pressure otherwise. WiFi was non-existent in my room cuarto #4.

Extremely friendly staff. Patio is beautiful. Bar has solid drinks & prices and restaurant food is delicious. Great location. Social hostel so bring earplugs if light sleeper

I’ve emailed and called several times this hotel within the last 2 weeks and no answer was given which is concerning. I just cancelled the booking.

If you like peace and quiet when you sleep then AVOID this place. This place is a bar first and then a hotel second. They blast loud music till 3am. It's extremely loud and even after the music is off you can hear everyone talking. The rooms are right next to the courtyard and there is nowhere for you to go to avoid the noise pollution. And it's every night without fail. I was there for four nights and that's four nights of NO sleep. And forget about sleeping in because in the morning the staff play music while they are working. The rooms themselves are fine. There's a fan in the room. Cleanliness is average. They don't turn over your room every day but that doesn't matter to me, but if you like your room cleaned daily you might want to consider somewhere else. I can't see how they would ever get repeat customers staying there because of the noise from the bar music. If you can sleep through rave volume music then you won't have a problem here but if not don't waste your money staying here

Disgusting hostel with bugs. The showers don’t work. We arrived and could not even stay one night in this place so we had to get another hotel. The front desk refused to refund us which is ridiculous because of the state of the place. Dirt all over the ground and beds & the washroom and showers are honestly disgusting. Do not stay here. Horrible staff and rude as well.

Frequently asked questions about Antigua Guatemala

When is the best time to visit Antigua Guatemala?

The best time to visit is during the dry season, from December to March, when rain days are few and temperatures are mild (highs around 25°C, lows near 12-14°C). April starts to see more showers. The rainiest stretch runs from May through October, especially June and September, with over 27 rain days each month and higher humidity. If you visit in late March or early April, Semana Santa (Holy Week) brings famous processions, but expect some rain. For reliably dry days, plan for January or February.

Which area should I stay in in Antigua Guatemala?

Stay in the historic center, El Centro, the compact heart of Antigua. It puts you on foot to the Parque Central, Arco de Santa Catalina, and the main churches and convents. For a quieter stay, the area around the Convento Capuchinas is still central and feels calmer at night. Most hotels, including Porta Hotel Antigua and Hotel Museo Casa Santo Domingo, are in El Centro.

What are the must-see attractions in Antigua Guatemala?

Start at Parque Central de Antigua Guatemala for the cathedral and colonial atmosphere. Cross the Arco de Santa Catalina, the city's iconic yellow arch. Climb Cerro de La Cruz for panoramic views. See the ornate baroque facade of Iglesia de la Merced, then visit Convento Capuchinas and Convento Santa Clara for a sense of monastic life.

What day trips can I take from Antigua Guatemala?

From Antigua, bookable day tours go to the Pacaya Volcano, the Iximché ruins, and Tikal by air. A shared tour also stops at Hobbitenango. Each offers a different side of Guatemala: volcanic landscapes, Maya history, and ancient jungle temples.

How many days do I need in Antigua Guatemala?

Plan 2 full days to see the main sights: Parque Central, Arco de Santa Catalina, Cerro de La Cruz, Iglesia de la Merced, Convento Capuchinas, and Tanque La Unión. With 3 days, add a slower pace or a hike like Pacaya Volcano, which needs an extra day. If you want to visit Tikal or Copán, plan at least one more day for the trip.
