Las Vegas rises from the Mojave Desert as a city built on spectacle, where colossal casino resorts and round-the-clock energy define the Strip. With 256 hotels, including the Wynn, the Venetian, and the Cosmopolitan, it makes no apology for its focus on gambling, dining, and relentless nightlife.
Known for: Nightlife · Food · Shopping · Architecture
The best time to visit Las Vegas is from March to May and September to November, when daytime highs range from the low 20s to low 30s Celsius and rain is rare. April and October are especially pleasant, with clear skies and low humidity. Summer months, June through August, are very hot, often exceeding 39°C, though the dry heat makes it manageable. Winters are mild but can be cooler, with occasional rain days.
Stay on the Strip for the iconic casinos, shows, and nightlife, with hotels like Wynn Las Vegas, The Venetian, and MGM Grand. Fremont Street suits those who want a more compact, old-school Vegas vibe, with The D Las Vegas as a base. Downtown Las Vegas, around Fremont, is great for a lively, pedestrian-friendly atmosphere.
Start with the Fountains of Bellagio, a free show with choreographed water and lights. The Fremont Street Experience offers a covered pedestrian mall with a massive LED canopy and live music. The Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign is the classic photo spot. The High Roller is a giant observation wheel with great views of the Strip. Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area is a scenic desert escape with a scenic drive and hiking trails.
Full-day tours head to Valley of Fire for red rock scenery, Grand Canyon West with the Skywalk and a Hoover Dam stop, Antelope Canyon and Horseshoe Bend for slot canyons and river views, Los Angeles and Hollywood for city sights, and Emerald Cave for a kayak paddle. Each is a solid way to see more of the region beyond the Strip.
Plan 3 to 4 days. In 3 days, see the Fountains of Bellagio, Fremont Street Experience, High Roller, and the Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas Sign, plus a show or casino stroll. Add a 4th day for Red Rock Canyon or the Neon Museum. If you want a full-day tour to Grand Canyon West or Antelope Canyon, add one more day.
