We stayed at Casa de Campo da Quinta da Pegada in Óbidos. The hotel is very good—recently refurbished, beautifully decorated, and very clean. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful. We booked our room through Booking.com and accidentally selected the wrong date. We couldn’t reach Booking.com, so we contacted the hotel directly. The staff kindly helped us change the date internally, which we really appreciated. Excellent service and a very pleasant stay.

This is a lovely place to stay. We found it when our hotel got cancelled for no reason. It was 7:30 at night; they still had the front desk open, and a live person answered my call. We love the place, which is like the castle we saw in the morning. I feel like a princess living in a historical castle. Not only a farm right beside, their plants are all real! :)

This place was beyond what I imagined. Newly refurbished/renovated, it was immaculate and just beautiful. The service was top-notch and the owner went above and beyond to ensure our stay was a lovely one. The location was perfect and just a ten minute walk to the historic town centre which was hustling and bustling with activity and yet, the hotel itself was serene and tranquil. The amenities were great, the room lovely but I’ve deducted one star because the air conditioning unit in our room leaked constantly and soaked my suitcase and personal items before I realised what was happening. I mean soaked, sopping wet! This was my only gripe and the owner was extremely apologetic and offered us the use of an extra room free of charge for the rest of our stay. That man and his sister were a delight! I feel kind of mean deducting that one star so please try and ignore it. 😃 I loved this place so much that I’ve recommended it to anyone who’s willing to listen to me wax lyrical about it. The hotel, its owners and the town itself. I plan on going back there real soon. I’ll be back to add photos.

(Translated by Google) Perfect location, just outside the village. The room was comfortable and clean. Breakfast wasn't included in the booking, but they offered it to us free of charge. It's an old farmhouse where they now keep farm animals. The host, Francisco, is a true professional. Highly recommended.

(Translated by Google) 5 stars is not enough to describe the hospitality, availability, friendliness, and conditions of the place. The farm is very beautiful and welcoming. Mr. Francisco was incredibly kind and helpful. He explained a bit about the history of the farm to us, and it was undoubtedly a great choice not to let it "die." The room was large, and the cleanliness was impeccable, something you don't see everywhere. The breakfast has everything you need for a family-friendly and welcoming meal. Once again, thank you so much for the way you welcomed us. The little one went to school to say that Mr. Francisco wanted to give her a little pig ☺️ and has already asked to visit you again.

Frequently asked questions about Óbidos

When is the best time to visit Óbidos?

The best time to visit Óbidos is from May to September, when days are warm and dry, ideal for exploring the castle and village. July and August are the hottest and busiest months, while November through February bring the most rain. Spring and early autumn offer pleasant temperatures and fewer crowds, though the famous medieval festival in July is a lively highlight.

Which area should I stay in in Óbidos?

Stay inside the historic walled town to be steps from the castle and Porta da Vila; it suits first-time visitors. The area around the aqueduct and Santa Maria is quieter, good for a relaxed stay. For beach access, the Amoreira area near Praia D’El Rey suits those wanting coast and golf. The Pousada Castelo de Obidos and Casa de S. Thiago do Castelo are within the walls; the Marriott and The Beachfront are in Amoreira.

What are the must-see attractions in Óbidos?

Start with Castelo de Óbidos, the medieval castle that defines the town, and Porta da Vila, the ornate gateway with its blue-and-white tiles. Walk the Passadiços da Foz do Arelho for coastal views, and visit the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Stone for its pilgrimage site. Parque Cinegético de Óbidos offers wildlife and nature, while Aqueduto de Usseira shows the town's historic water system.

What day trips can I take from Óbidos?

The full-day tours from Óbidos go to the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Stone, a pilgrimage site with a chapel and views, and the Passadiços da Foz do Arelho, a boardwalk along the coast. The Parque Cinegético de Óbidos is also a tour destination, a wildlife park. For a classic day trip, the medieval town of Nazaré, known for its big waves, is a well-known option.

How many days do I need in Óbidos?

Two days is enough to see the main sights: the Castelo de Óbidos, the Porta da Vila, and the Aqueduto de Usseira, plus strolling the town. If you want to add the Passadiços da Foz do Arelho or the Sanctuary of the Lord of the Stone, plan a third day. A day trip to the coast or nearby areas would need an extra day beyond that.
