AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Vegeåleden is a scenic 8.5-kilometre hiking trail that traces the meandering River Vegeå through the open Skåne countryside between Strövelstorp and the coastal village of Utvälinge. The route passes a centuries-old castle, winds through mixed forest and farmland, and ends where the river meets the sea in a bird-rich nature reserve.
Named after the river it follows, the trail offers a compact half-day walk rated at medium difficulty, suitable for most fitness levels. Hikers can expect a satisfying variety of landscapes — from village outskirts and open fields to deep-forested riverbanks and coastal meadows — all within a single route that takes roughly two to two-and-a-half hours on foot.↗

The River That Shapes the Landscape
The Vegeå is one of northwestern Skåne's most distinctive waterways. In the stretch between Strövelstorp and the sea, the river has carved a deeply incised channel into the surrounding terrain, creating a ribbon of steep, wooded banks that contrast sharply with the flat agricultural fields above. The powerful meandering — sweeping S-curves visible from the trail — gives this section of the river a wildness unusual in southern Sweden's cultivated landscape.
