AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Şakran Beach is a long, golden stretch of sand on Turkey's northern Aegean coast, about 75 kilometres north of İzmir in the Aliağa district. Known locally as Yenişakran Sahili, it has earned a reputation as a hidden paradise — a place where the sea stays calm, the wind keeps sailing, and the crowds thin out enough for families and peace-seekers to feel the coast belongs to them.↗↗↗
The beach runs approximately 1,200 to 1,500 metres along the shoreline with a 20-metre-wide sandy strip and a sea floor that drops off gently. It is free to enter, accessible by public transport from Aliağa, and backed by a modernised promenade with bicycle paths, seating, and lighting — the result of a municipal renovation completed in time for the 2017 summer season.↗↗↗
What Makes It Special
Şakran sits at a natural bay on the Aegean, which means the water here tends to be wave-sheltered and clear, while a consistent sea breeze makes it a favourite spot for sailing enthusiasts. Visitors describe it as a 'hidden paradise' and 'a quiet cove with wonderful sea.' The shallow entry and sandy bottom are especially welcoming to families with small children — no aqua shoes required in most sections.
