AT A GLANCE
Why go?
Set on a landscaped hillside in North Huntingdon Township, Westmoreland County, Indian Lake is a small, pretty 5-acre lake around which the township has built its flagship recreation park. The township itself calls Indian Lake Park the "crown jewel" of its system, and it shows: a paved loop skirts the water, fishing piers reach out over it, and a gazebo, covered bridge and fire pit give the shoreline a park-like charm that feels made for a relaxed afternoon outdoors.↗
It is an easygoing, all-ages spot rather than a wilderness escape. Visitors come to walk, jog or rollerblade the lakeside paths, cast a line from the pier, let kids play on the modern playground and climbing-rock area, or work out at the outdoor fitness stations. With ample parking, benches, picnic tables and multiple comfort stations, it is just as comfortable for a stroller stroll or a family get-together as it is for a quick workout.
A lakeside park built for moving and lingering
The heart of the visit is the water and the path that rings it. Indian Lake is a scenic, seasonally stocked 5-acre lake set against an aesthetically landscaped hillside, and the paved walking paths that trace its edge make for an unhurried circuit—roughly a half-mile around the water, an approach many people use for daily walking, running or rollerblading. Benches and tables are scattered along the route, so the loop doubles as a place to sit and watch the light on the lake rather than just a place to log miles.
